Can't Believe I Forgot!

It's funny how easily you can lose track of things, isn't it? In my "multi-purpose fabric" giveaway post, I totally forgot that I had a completed project to show you, accomplished in large part because of the fabric. I'm sorry there are no process photos, I was moving too fast through the month of December to take any!

I created this fabric and paper collage by first choosing some of my painted and monoprinted Stacked Journaling deli papers. I collaged the papers together loosely, playing with them until I liked what I had, and then I measured the sides carefully at their widest points. The whole thing measured roughly 30" x 30", so I cut a piece of multi-purpose fabric to 33" x 33" and moved the papers onto it. I collaged them down with fluid matte medium, painting both the fabric and the backs of the papers with a thin layer of the medium, and being careful to squeegie out as many of the air bubbles as possible.

When the piece dried (it took several days), I simply cut away the excess fabric from around the edges of the collage, and it was ready to be hung.

As I've said, the multi-purpose fabric doesn't fray, stretch or buckle, so the piece lays perfectly flat and has the lovely hand of old leather. The papers show no sign of wanting to peel away from the fabric, but if I was worried that they might start to lift, the paper fabric is so soft that I could easily machine or hand stitch through it.

Create with fun!
